Mitzi Miller, editor of Ebony magazine, has resigned.

Mitzi Miller, who was named editor in-chief of Ebony magazine in April, has resigned after less than a year on the job, officials of Johnson Publishing Company, the Chicago-based parent of Ebony and Jet magazines announced on Friday.

Miller, 39, plans to pursue writing for television and film, according to a statement. Miller co-wrote the 2006 book “The Vow,” which the successful Lifetime cable network program “With This Ring” is based. Miller’s co-authors were Angela Burt Murray and Denene Milner.

Prior to being named Ebony’s editor, Miller was editor and chief of Jet magazine for three years. Under her editorial leadership, she revamped the popular pocket size magazine so it could be read on the web with a digital app. The app launched in July but was shelved in October amid billing and other issues.

Miller, a native of New York, is a graduate of Florida A&M University. In addition to “With This Ring, ” she has co authored four other books
