Frantz Fanon’s Daughter to Speak at International Reparations Conference

Mirelle Fanon-Mendes France, daughter of psychiatrist, author  and revolutionary thinker Frantz Fanon, will speak at the National and International Reparations Conference April 9-12 in New York City.

France, who is president of the Frantz Fanon Foundation, which is based in Paris, will speak about the ongoing colonial status of the so-called French “Departments” of Martinique and Guaddeloupe in the Caribbean region.  Fanon, a psychiatrist from Martinque, wrote the books “The Wretched of the Earth” and “Black Skin, White Masks.”  He died in 1961.

In a related development, the National African American Reparations Committee announced that four new members have been appointed to the committee by the Institute of the Black World 21st Century.

They are: Bill Lucy, president emeritus of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists; Kaam Howard of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America; Salim Adolfo, vice chairman of the National Black United Front, Dr. Patricia Newton, CEO of Black Psychiatrists of America.

Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam is expected to serve on the commission or appoint someone from the Nation to serve in his place. The commission will have 15 members, and the body will hold town hall meetings across the country to develop a 10-point plan for reparations.  NorthStar News Today. com published information about the conference its Jan. 6 issue.
