Potbelly Reports Fourth-Quarter Profit

Potbelly Corp., a Chicago-based neighborhood-sandwich shop headed by Chairman and CEO Aylwin Lewis, reported a positive net income based on higher revenues in the fourth quarter, which ended Dec. 28, 2014.

Potbelly reported a $702,000 net income compared with a net loss of $3.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. The company on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter revenues of $84.8 million, up 13.4% compared to $74. 7 million in 2013’s fourth quarter.

“We are pleased with our results in the fourth quarter, where we delivered revenue growth of 13.4% driven by company-operated and comparable sales growth of 3.7% and new unit growth,” Lewis said in a statement.

During the fourth quarter, Potbelly opened 16 company-owned sandwich shops and three franchise-owned shops, Lewis said. The business expects to open 40 to 45 company-owned sandwich shops in 2015.

Potbelly reported a year end net income of $4.35 million compared with a loss of $63, 693 for the same period in 2013. The company reported 2014 year end revenues of $326.97 million compared to $299.71 million in  2013.
