Actor Ron Glass, who portrayed Ron Harris on the television series “Barney Miller,” died Friday in Los Angeles home. He was 71.
Glass died of respiratory failure, said his agent. Glass was nominated for an Emmy Award for supporting actor for “Barney Miller,” which was set in a station house in New York’s Greenwich Village. He played a gentlemanly detective. The show aired from 1975 to 1982.
Glass also appeared in other popular television shows, including “Sanford and Son,” “Friends,” “Designing Women” and others. He had roles in more than a dozen films, including “Unbowed” (1999) and “Serenity” (2005).
Glass was born July 10, 1045, in Evansville, Indiana.
