The Black Unemployment Rate Was 8.1 Percent in November

The November Black unemployment rate was 8.1 percent, much higher when compared to whites, Asians and Hispanics, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

The jobless rate for Asians was 3.0 percent and for whites it was 4.2 percent. The Hispanic unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, BLS reported.

The jobless rate for black men 20 years old and older was 7.7 percent, down from 8.7 percent in October. The unemployment rate for black women 20 years old and older was 7.1 percent, the same as October.

The overall unemployment rate declined to 4.6 percent in November as nonfarm payroll employment increased by 178,000.
