38 inmates test positive for COVID-19 at Cook County Jail

Sheriff Thomas J. Dart of the Cook County Department of Corrections said 38 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, and six have tested negative.

123 detainees are waiting for test results, Sheriff Dart said 5 p.m. on March 27. In addition, nine Sheriff’s office employees have tested positive for COVID-19.

Chicago-based Cook County Jail is the nation’s largest single site jail housing 6500 inmates on 96 acres. The department employs 3,900 law enforcement officials and 700 civilian employees.
