But counties in Texas have to the fastest-growing black populations

Cook County, Illinois, whose biggest city is Chicago, was home to the nation’s largest African American population in 2018, with 1. 3 million residents, the U.S. Census Bureau recently reported.

Harris County, Texas, reported the largest numeric increase of African Americans between 2017 and 2018, adding 14, 017 blacks to the county’s population. Houston, the county seat of Harris County, has a population of more than 4 million. It is the most populous county in Texas and the nation’s third most populous county.

The black population grew the fastest in Ellis County, Texas, growing 9.0 percent or adding 1,799 persons between 2017 and 2018, the Census Bureau reported. Ellis County’s population is 149,610. The county seat is Waxahachie. Ellis County is near Dallas/Fort Worth.
