Tommy Curry, professor of philosophy and Africana Studies at Texas A&M University, has been named editor of the first-ever university press book series focused on studies of black and racialized males.
Curry, author of The Man-Not: Race, Class, Genre and The Dilemmas of Black Manhood,” has called for creation of an interdisciplinary field of black-male studies.
Temple University, which is based in Philadelphia, wants book proposals and will publish the series.Black-male studies will study black men and boys in the United States and abroad. The series will fill the gaps in current literature concerning black men who have suffered oppression through racial subjugation.
