Los Angeles police are investigating the spray painting of the word “nigger” on the front gate of Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James’ Brentwood, Calif., home.

The spray painting was discovered Wednesday morning, and the property manager said a surveillance camera may have photographed the person or persons who did it, according to several news reports.

Police are investigating the incident as either a hate crime or vandalism. Someone painted over the racial slur before police arrived.

James was not home at the time. He also lives in Akron, Ohio.

At a news conference, he was philosophical but angry about what had happened.

James said neither his fame, nor his fortune, nor his unparalleled athletic ability could prevent some people from hating him because he is a black. “Being a black man in America is very frightening,” he added.

The Cavaliers are in Oakland, Calif., preparing to play the Golden State Warriors in the first game of the N.B.A. championship, beginning Thursday.

The Los Angeles police did not have any further comment on the incident when reached by NorthStarNewsToday.com/BlackmansStreet.Today.

In another racist incident, a hangman’s noose was discovered Wednesday hanging inside the National Museum of African American History and Culture om Washington, D.C. It was the second noose found on the grounds of the Smithsonian Institution this week. The National Museum of African American History is part of the Smithsonian.
