KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN–Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton finished second to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix after being penalized for a pit stop.
It was the second time Hamilton finished second to Vettel since the Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the 2017 Formula 1 season, which was held March 26 in Melbourne.
Hamilton, the three-time world champion, won the Chinese Grand Prix which was held April 9 in Shanghai.
In Bahrain, Hamilton, a black Englishman, was penalized at his second pit stop with 15 laps remaining in the race. He charged ahead, but ran out of laps before he could catch Vettel, according Sky News.
Hamilton blamed himself for the error. “This was my fault,” he told Sky News.
So far this year in driver standings, Vettel has 68 points to Hamilton’s 61. The Formula 1 season screeches to halt Nov. 26 with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
