Reigning Formula 1 World Driving Champion Lewis Hamilton won Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix in a pouring rain, setting the stage for a championship battle with Nico Rosberg in Abu Dhabi, the final race of the year.
Hamilton, a black Englishman, now has 355 championship points to Rosberg’s 367. The two are Mercedes teammates and rivals. They will compete November 27 in Abu Dhabi.
Rosberg finished second, and Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, finished third.
It was Hamilton’s ninth win of the 2016 season. The victory came in a race with several high-speed accidents, two stoppages and five safety cars. Hamilton was the World Driving Champion in 2008, 2014 and 2015.
The Brazil Grand Prix was held in Sao Paulo.
