Hip Hop Mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs steered the creation of a charter school that will open this fall in Harlem.
The school will replicate the model of Capital Preparatory Magnet School, a year-around school in Hartford, Conn. The Harlem school will be called Capital Prep Harlem.
Dr. Steve Perry, founder of the Hartford School, told the New York Times that it is unclear what role Combs will play in the school.
The school is scheduled to open for the 2016-2017 school year with 160 students in the sixth and seventh grades. School officials plan to add one grade per year, eventually enrolling 700 students in grades six through 12.
Combs, a native of Harlem who attended Howard University, called the school’s opening a dream come true.
