U.S. Open winner Naomi Osaka to sign new, larger contract with Adidas

U.S. Open winner Naomi Osaka is expected to sign a much bigger contract with Adidas, the athletic shoe maker. Osaka, who is part Haitian and Japanese, is expected to sign an $8.5 million contract with Adidas, according to news sources. Her current contract is smaller.  On Saturday, Osaka,20, won a straight-set victory over Serena Williams to take the title.

Jesse Owens first wore Adidas track shoes during the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he won four Gold Medals.

Workers move statue from New York’s Central Park

Workers in New York City have moved the statue of Dr. J. Marion Sims, the father of modern gynecology, from Central Park to another location because he experimented on black slave women without using anesthesia.

Sims’s statue was moved in April to Green-Wood Cemetery in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, where he is buried. His statute had been located on a pedestal at East 103rd Street in Manhattan.

The statue in Brooklyn will include information that Sims also experimented on black slave women without their permission.
