Kevin Warren, chief operating officer of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League, has been named the sixth commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, a position he will assume September 16.
“I am absolutely honored to become the sixth commissioner of the Big 10 Conference, “ Warren said. “The opportunity is an incredible and unique blend of my lifelong passion and experience.”
The Big Ten Conference was established in 1896. It is based in Park Ridge, Illinois.
It is an association of world-class universities whose member institutions share a common mission of research, graduate, professional and undergraduate teaching and public service.
Warren is the first African-American chief operating officer in NFL history. He has held the job since 2005.
