The man who made Kansas City barbecue famous one delicious bite at a time
There is movement in Kansas City, Missouri, to name the city’s new airport after Henry Perry, the man who made Kansas City famous for the best barbecue in the country if not the world.
An American writer was in Budapest. When someone asked him where he lived, the writer told the man he was from Kansas City.
The man immediately reacted by saying Kansas City has the best barbeque in the world. The writer also traveled to Dublin, Ireland, and his Irish friends also lauded KC’s reputation for barbeque.
Mr. Perry sold his barbeque from a pushcart and later opened a restaurant.
The Kansas City Star polled its readers concerning the name of the new airport. Perry’s name was not included, but several hundred subscribers wrote to the paper saying Perry’s name is important to Kansas City.
