Cuban woman is behind book bans in Florida schools
A Black Cuban woman who complained about Amanda Gorman’s inauguration poem for President Joseph Biden, causing it to be banned by the Bob Graham education center in Miami Lakes, Florida, was reported to have ties to the Proud Boys.
The woman was identified as Daily Salinas. She was born in Cuba and her first language is Spanish. Salinas wore a T-shirt that bore an image of Enrique Tarrio, founder of the far-right group.
She confessed that she is not a reader. “I’m not a book person. I’m a mom involved in children’s education, “ Salinas said.
The banned books included “The ABCs of Black History” and poetry by Langston Hughes. Gorman’s poem at Biden’s inauguration was “The Hill We Climb.”
