Walter Kimbrough is named interim head of the Black Men’s Research Institute at Morehouse College

Walter Kimbrough, former president of Dillard University, has been appointed interim executive director of the Black Men’s Research Institute at Morehouse College, a college for Black men based in Atlanta.

“I am glad to finally be part of the Morehouse family,† said Dr. Kimbrough. The Black Men’s Research Institute is designed to study issues affecting Black men in the U.S. and internationally.

“We are pioneering the study of the economic, social, cultural, and personal outcomes of issues affecting Black men, particularly where disparities exist in the U.S. and internationally,” institute officials said.

Rooted in the scholarship of the humanities, humanistic social sciences, and the creative arts, the Black Men’s Research Institute (BMRI) is unique in its expansive focus on diverse Black masculinities and the positioning of Black men in society as it relates to the intersectionality of race, class, religion, gender, sexuality, identity, politics and policy, history, art, and other factors, officials said.
