Former Detroit Police Chief jumps into Michigan Senate race as a Trumper

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig launched a bid as a Republican for a Senate seat in Michigan, replacing Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who is retiring.

Stabenow, a Democrat, has been in office since 2001.

Craig, who served as Detroit Police Chief for eight years, made the announcement Tuesday in a video posted on his campaign website, saying he would bring “strong leadership†to the position to help families, small businesses, and the victims of crime.

He is a Trump-friendly candidate in a group of more mainstream politicians vying for the Senate seat.

Recently, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson, who is Black, switched from Democratic to Republican, blaming his former party for their mismanagement of the homeless crisis and increased crime.
