The killer of a Black woman neighbor was released on $150,000 bond

Susan Lorincz, who shot and killed her Black neighbor through her home’s closed door, was released after paying a $150,000 bond in Ocala, Florida.

The shooting of Ajike “AJ” Owens, 46, comes after the NAACP cautioned Black people not to visit the state because it was dangerous.

Owens went to Lorincz’s rental house after she threw a pair of skates, hitting her 10-year-old son in the head.

Owens walked over to Lorincz’s house to learn why her son had been attacked.

Owens pounded on the front door to talk to Lorincz who pulled a gun and shot Owens through the door as her 10-year-old son screamed. Owens was the mother of four children. Before killing Owens, Lorincz hurled racist insults at Owens.

Lorincz, 63, was immediately released after the shooting, saying she feared for her life which involved standing her ground in Florida.

Later police determined that the shooting did not constitute a stand-you-ground instance. Lorincz was also evicted was from her apartment. She is charged with culpable negligence, battery, and manslaughter. A judge granted her bail.

A funeral service was held Monday for Owens. Benjamin Crump, the attorney for the Owens family, said he is confident Lorincz will be convicted.
