Governor Ron De Santis to speak to Illinois cops

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will speak Monday in Elmhurst to “Law and Order Illinois” to members of Chicago Lodge 7 of the Fraternal Orders of Police, which backs Paul Vallas for mayor of Chicago.

The event in suburban Chicago is being promoted but not hosted by Lodge 7—the meeting is only for members of law enforcement, not their spouses. The doors opened at 3:30 p.m.

DeSantis brings a lot of baggage to the meeting.

DeSantis has led an effort to block the teaching of critical race theory used in sociology to explain social, political, and legal structures and power distribution through a “lens” focusing on the concept of race, and experiences of racism.

Rev Al Sharpton, who led a march on Tallahassee, the state capital, said DeSantis wants to erase Black History from the statewide curriculum.

Some 16 states have either restricted race in the classroom or are considering restricting race in classroom discussions.
