Founder of the Chicago-based African American Patrolmen League dies

Renault Alvin Robinson, the founder of the African American Patrolmen League, died July 8, 2023. Mr. Robinson was 80.

During his career as a police officer, Robinson was responsible for bringing a lawsuit against the Chicago Police Department for discrimination against minorities, primarily Blacks, and Hispanics.

One of the few times I met him was when he was assigned racist cops by racist cops to guard the alley behind the old police headquarters at 11th and State. He was a Chicago police officer who served from 1964 to 1983.

He was chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority under Chicago Mayor Harold Washington from August 1983 to January 1987.
