Alpha Phi Alpha rejects Florida as its 2025 convention venue

The nation’s oldest Black Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, will move its 2025 convention out of Florida because of Gov. Ron DeSantis’s racist comments.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., will also relocate the fraternity’s 99th General Convention and 119th Anniversary Convention from Orlando due to DeSantis’s racist comments and insensitive policies against the Black community,” according to a press release from the organization.

The event was expected to generate $4.6 million, according to Alpha Phi Alpha.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (ΑΦΑ) is the oldest intercollegiate Black fraternity.

The fraternity was initially a literary and social studies club organized during the 1905–1906 school year at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., but it later evolved into a fraternity with a founding date of December 4, 1906.

Alpha Phi Alpha is based in Baltimore.
