Cornel West and Robert Kennedy, Jr. are running as Independents

Progressive activist Cornel West and maverick Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said they won’t seek their respective party’s nominations for president.

Kennedy Jr. said Monday he will run for president as an independent and drop his Democratic primary bid, likely pitting him against President Joe Biden, who is running for reelection.

He is the third of eleven children born to Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy.

He is an American environmental lawyer and writer who promotes anti-vaccine misinformation and public health-related conspiracy theories.

Dr. West said that he is no longer running for president under the Green Party banner. Instead, the high-profile African-American thought leader will run as an Independent.

“I’m running as an Independent candidate for President of the United States to end the iron grip of the ruling class and ensure true democracy!” West wrote on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“People are hungry for change,” he added. “They want good policies over partisan politics. We need to break the duopoly’s grip and give power to the people.” Dr. Cornel West is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary.
