Finally, an arrest 30 years after Tupac Shakur’s murder

Las Vegas police arrested a man for the shooting death of Tupac Shakur, but the man police arrested was not the shooter.

Shakur was shot down on September 13, 1996. He was 25. He was riding in a car with Suge Knight, the founder of Death Row Records.

The suspect under arrest is Duane “Keffe D” Davis, who has long been known to investigators as one of four suspects identified early in the murder investigation.

In his memoir, Davis broke his silence over Tupac’s killing in 2010 during a closed-door meeting with federal and local authorities.

At the time, he was 46 and facing life in prison on drug charges when he agreed to speak with authorities. He is now either 60 or 61.

Police said he was not the gunman but was described as the group’s ringleader by authorities on Friday at a news conference and in court.

In Nevada, you can be charged with a crime, including murder, if you help someone commit the crime.

“Davis was the shot caller for this group of individuals that committed this crime,” said police homicide Lt. Jason Johansson, “and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out.”

Davis has long been known to investigators and has admitted in interviews and his 2019 tell-all memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” that he was in the Cadillac where the gunfire erupted during the September 1996 drive-by shooting.

Police reported they had collected multiple computers, a cellphone, a hard drive, and a Vibe magazine that featured Davis’s 2019 tell-all memoir, “Compton Street Legend.”

When Davis originally spoke with authorities, “They promised they would shred the indictment and stop the grand jury if I helped them out,” he wrote.
