Africa’s population is booming with young people

Africa has the fastest-growing population and youngest population of any continent.

In 1950, Africans made up 8 percent of the world’s population, and by 2050, they will account for one-third of the world’s population, according to the United Nations.

In Africa, the median age is 19. In India, it is 28, and in the U.S. and China, it is 38.

Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent, after Asia in both aspects. Africa covers 20% of Earth‘s land area and 6% of its total surface area.

With 1.4 billion people as of 2021, it accounts for about 18% of the world’s population

Birthrates are tumbling in wealthier nations, leading residents to worry about how to pay for older members of their societies.

The African population is expected to double to 2.5 billion over the next quarter century.
