Coco turns her U.S. Open opponent into a snack

It also was another Father’s Day story

After Coco Gauff won the U.S. Open, she looked across the stadium and saw her dad crying.

“Today was the first time I have ever seen my dad cry,” she told a nationwide audience after defeating Aryna Sabalenka at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y.

Her father wanted the camera to cut away from him sobbing.

Gauff also complimented her mother, Candi, thanking both parents for supporting her in winning the U.S. Open.

It was a spectacular day for dads and moms who support their children, especially for dads whom Black and White women blame for not being present and engaged for whatever complicated reason.

The support given to Gauff was also given to tennis greats Serena and Venus Williams by their father.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam women’s singles titles, the most in the Open Era and the second-most of all time.

Venus Williams has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the U.S. Open.

Naomi Osaka is a four-time Grand Slam singles champion with two Australian Open and two U.S. Open titles.

Having little experience as a tennis player, Leonard Francois, Osaka’s father, sought to emulate how Richard Williams trained his daughters, Serena and Venus, to become two of the best players in the world despite having never played the sport.

Gauff won the 2023 US Open with 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Sabalenka.

Guaff, a 19-year-old American, kneeled, wept, and prayed on the court briefly as she took in her victory.

This was only her second major final, and now she has earned her first Grand Slam title by defeating Sabalenka, now ranked the No. 1 women’s tennis player in the world.
