Disgruntled employee kills five coworkers and wounds eight others

A disgruntled Louisville bank employee shot and killed five of his coworkers and wounded nine others on Monday before police killed him.

This is the second mass shooting in a week. Last week at Covenant School in Nashville, six people were killed, including three children.

Police identified the Louisville shooter as Conner Sturgeon, 25, who earned a master’s degree in finance from the University of Alabama.

Sturgeon worked for Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. He had interned there for several years while he was a student. It’s not clear what set him off.

He shot and killed Tommy Elliott, 63, Jim Trutt, 64, Josh Barrick, 40, Juliana Farmer, 45, and Deanna Ecker, 57. All five were bank employees.

According to his LinkedIn account, he has worked at the bank full-time since June 2021. Sturgeon worked most recently as a syndications associate and portfolio banker.

Sturgeon, whose family lived in Greenville, Indiana, lived in Louisville on Taylor Avenue. According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, he graduated from Floyd Central High School, where he played basketball.

He walked into the bank with a long gun and began shooting.

Sturgeon lived streamed the murders like Payton Gendron did when he murdered 10 Black men and Black women on May 15 in a Buffalo., N.Y. supermarket.

A local hospital received nine patients following the shooting – two police officers and seven civilians, officials said. Three patients have been released and three are in critical condition, including a police officer, authorities added.

President Joe Biden was angry about another mass shooting.

“Once again, our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence – Jill and I pray for the lives lost and impacted by today’s shooting. Too many Americans are paying the price of inaction with their lives. When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities?”

The Louisville attack marked the nation’s 146th mass shooting and the 15th mass killing. The Louisville shooting brings the count to 147.

The mass shooting is not following a pattern. In Nashville, Audrey Hale, 28, a person who identified as transgender, was the killer. Peyton Genron killed 10 in Buffalo. He was 18 at the time of the shooting.

Now Connor Sturgeon, a student with a master’s degree in finance, is the killer.

Both Hale and Sturgeon indicated on social media that they were suicidal.
