Black men have either launched bids to become president or are considering it.

U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R. South Carolina), Larry Elder, a conservative radio host, and rapper Joseph Afroman Foreman have either announced they are running for U. S. president or they are exploring the possibility of getting into the mix. 

Sen. Scott has launched an exploratory presidential committee, a clear sign that he will run for the GOP ticket in 2024. 

If he runs, he will face former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, who as South Carolina governor chose Scott to replace Jim DeMint on December 17, 2023, making him the first Black senator from the South since Reconstruction.

In a video posted for his campaign, Scott said he has never backed down in defending conservative values. 

Joseph Afroman Forman said he is running as an independent for president. He said his goal is the national legalization of marijuana. His campaign is called “Joseph Afroman for President.” He dubbed it the 20-20-FRO Election.

As of April 3, 2023, 38 states, three territories and the District of Columbia allow the medical use of cannabis products. 

Larry Elder, a Republican, also is entering a crowded field for 2024  with front-runner former President Donald Trump and Nikki Haley. Elder ran in the California recall election to unseat Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Elder won nearly half the 7 million votes cast for “replacement†candidates to succeed Newsom

 Elder announced his campaign on Tucker Carlson Tonight on April 1.
